Troy Cartwright channels Vulnerability of Ryan Adams + Eric Church stature on ‘Don’t Fade,’ out Oct. 7

On Fri., Oct., 7, Nashville-by-way-of-Dallas musician Troy Cartwright will deliver a genre-blurring five-song EP titled ‘Don’t Fade,’ via Hard Luck Recording Company. Channeling the heartfelt vulnerability of Ryan Adams and the commanding arena-ready stage presence of Eric Church, the charismatic artist uses the collection’s title as his own mantra for his own career. Produced by fellow songwriter Rob Baird and Brian Douglas Phillips, Cartwright hones in on the sharp lyrics and soulful delivery that earned his self-titled debut widespread praise in Texas and beyond. For Cartwright though, that was only the prelude.

Growing up in a conservative Texas home, Cartwright’s exposure to modern music was limited primarily to the ‘Forrest Gump’ soundtrack and Steven Curtis Chapman records. For his twelfth birthday, his parents gave him an acoustic guitar, and he discovered singer-songwriters and alt-country troubadours, contemporaries like Pete Yorn and classic artists like John Prine. It led him to begin penning his own songs, and by the time he hit high school, he was playing regularly in bars and churches. A summer program at NYU exposed Cartwright to the world outside of Dallas and inspired him to head even further from home to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Cartwright worked his way through school with odd jobs in the music industry and wedding band gigs, unsatisfied and more convinced than ever that he needed to take the leap with his own music. He moved back to Texas and recorded an EP, ‘Bull Run,’ that earned him top honors in the B.W. Stevenson Songwriting Competition. Then, a performance with John Fullbright led Cartwright to Oklahoma, where he collaborated with producer Wes Sharon on the self-titled debut that would break him onto the Texas radio charts.

Pushing further and playing 100+ shows per year without an agent or a manager, the quality of his music and the exhilarating live performances caught the ear of fellow Texas songwriter Rob Baird, who offered to produce ‘Don’t Fade’ with Brian Douglas Phillips at Phillips’ Austin-based Rattle Trap Studio.

The sound that they ultimately landed on is instantly appealing, a warm, radio-friendly blend that calls to mind everything from Will Hoge to The Old 97’s. Earworm opener “Never Coming Back” is an ideal showcase for Cartwright’s gifts, with his silky-smooth vocals riding a laid-back drum groove punctuated by dynamic electric guitar riffs and classic rock organ swells. The songwriter takes a darker turn on “Busted,” a driving, gritty tune inspired by the breakdown of a truck in the west Texas heat that mirrored the breakdown of his own crumbling relationship, while “Nobody But You” channels the pain of staying behind while a loved one leaves, and the sweetly emotional “Don’t Fade” battles the inevitable passage of time. One of the most special moments for Cartwright, though, comes at the end of the EP, as the stripped-down acoustic meditation of “Arkansas” drifts off into an ethereal soundscape like the last rays of light at sunset.

Cartwright is now signed to William Morris Endeavor and has shows slated through the fall, including opening slots for Granger Smith, Wade Bowen and others, and a run of EP release shows in Texas. For more information, please visit troycartwright.com.

August 2, 2016 — This afternoon, critically acclaimed road warrior William Clark Green confirms he will release WILLIAM CLARK GREEN – LIVE AT GRUENE HALL on September 23.   A fiery entertainer with swagger in spades, Green is known for selling hard tickets from New York to Denver.   While the concept of a live album can be daunting for many, it was a natural fit for Green who plays over 150 dates a year. A challenge he welcomed with open arms.

When asked why Gruene Hall?  William quickly answered, “Gruene Hall’s history – it’s a blessing to be a part of it. It’s about as rich in Texas music tradition as it gets. Just about everyone has played there, past and present.”  He continued, I’m very fortunate to be part of a record that was recorded there. For them to allow us to do that – I owe them many thanks.”

Many artists have paid tribute to the rich history of venue, by recording live albums in the dancehall, including two that stand out among the pack for Green. “Two of my favorite live records are “Jerry Jeff Walker – Live At Gruene Hall” and “Jack Ingram – Live At Gruene Hall.”

In fact, Jack Ingram lends his vocals to “Goodnight Moon” on the live album.  Other artists featured include Dani Flowers on “Final This Time,” Ross Cooper on “It’s About Time” and Randall Clay on “Ringling Road.”  In all, the album is comprised of twenty-one tracks.  Each filled with Green’s signature smoky vocals delivered with a confidence owned only by the most seasoned touring veterans.

WILLIAM GLARK GREEN – LIVE AT GRUENE HALL adds to the proud Texas tradition of recording live.  Green’s choice to record at the legendary Gruene Hall is sure to enchant Texas music fans who have already made Green a house hold name in the Lonestar State.  The live album is also the follow up to his critically acclaimed Thirty Tigers release RINGLING ROAD.  The album received high praise from the likes of Rolling Stone Country, American Songwriter, and Billboard among numerous others.  Produced by the talented Nashville based treasure Rachel Loy, the album was one of only three albums produced solely by a female to make its debut inside the Top 20 in decades.

His electrifying live shows coupled with a warm, approachable, guy next-door charm have made Green a favorite among fans and critics. Regarded as an up and coming star on the national touring scene, Green will make stops this year in major cities across the nation including: New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, DC, Indianapolis, Memphis, Nashville, Dallas, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles and Atlanta, among others.

Rob Baird Trades Nashville for Austin on ‘Wrong Side of the River’ concept LP, out May 13

Memphis-born storyteller hits the reset button — bit.ly/1LyylB9

Soul-hungry for creativity he couldn’t find in Nashville, Memphis-born storyteller Rob Baird took a one-way ticket to Austin. Trekking through miles of self-reflection, Baird rediscovered his passion for music in the hands of producer Brian Phillips (David Ramirez, Penny + Sparrow). Now, he’s ready to share his journey on the 10-track ‘Wrong Side of the River’ musical autobiography out May 13.

After releasing his 2012 ‘I Swear It’s The Truth’ in Nashville, Baird found himself hungry for independence. While he’s always had an affection for classic country, he found himself compartmentalized in places that were leaving him emotionally empty, resulting in the urge to flee the one-size-fits-all mantra and rediscover songwriting on his own terms.

With influences as deep-welled as the Stax-era and melodies reminiscent of skipping study hall to see world-weathered bluesmen perform — Baird knew the direction he wanted to go. After weeks on the road, he found it both lyrically and sonically at the core of ‘Wrong Side of the River.’

Baird’s journey takes him through songs ranging from a blues-drenched, Jack White-influenced title track to an organ-aided Jackson Browne-styled rocker “Mercy Me;” from a sentimental “Run of Good Luck” ballad to the cannon-shot stomper “Ain’t Nobody Got A Hold On Me.”

“In the end, it’s all about music to me,” Baird says. “Timing is everything, and you have to go through all the pain and suffering to figure out who you want to be and what you want to do. That’s life, and this album is mine.”

‘Wrong Side of the River’ tracklist:
1. Ain’t Nobody Got A Hold On Me
2. Mercy Me
3. Pocket Change
4. Run Of Good Luck
5. Wrong Side Of The River
6. Oklahoma
7. Horses
8. Mississippi Moon
9. When I Go
10. Cowboy Cliche

Thurs., Mar. 17 / Threadgill’s – Riverside / KVET’s South By St. Patty’s Party
Fri., Mar. 18 / Willie Nelson’s Luck, TX / Luck Reunion

GRANGER SMITH’S COUNTRY-BOY ALTER-EGO, EARL DIBBLES JR., RELEASES ANTICIPATED NEW MUSIC VIDEO “MERICA”

Monday, February 29th, 2016

Merica screen grab

Nashville, Tenn. (February 26, 2016) – Earl Dibbles Jr., the comedic brainchild of country music hitmaker, Granger Smith, releases today his highly anticipated music video for his fourth and most raucous song to-date, “Merica.” “Merica” is featured on Granger’s upcoming album, Remington, which releases March 4 via Wheelhouse Records. Pre-order is available via iTunes and fans that purchase now will receive the following instant grats: the No. 1 hit song “Backroad Song,” “If The Boot Fits,” “Tonight” and “Merica.”  Watch the music video for “Merica” on YouTube: http://geni.us/Merica

“Earl Dibbles Jr. had been missing a song about ‘Merica’ on his previous three tracks,” says Granger. “One of my goals in writing this one was to try and capture who Earl is for those who might not know anything about him. From the first line you can picture who Earl is, “I got my one strap snapped on my Liberty bibs, wad of Levi Garrett packed between my lip and my gum… Merica.” Earl Dibbles Jr. allows me to work way outside the typical parameters of country music and this song adds another tangible layer to who Earl is.”

As reiterated in the song’s chorus, Earl Dibbles Jr. is a proud and very vocal American who regularly comments about the greatness of the USA.

CHORUS

“We’re back to back undefeated World War Champs
So take a cup, raise it up for my Uncle Sam
You know we sent a man to the moon and before we’re done
Yah we’ll probably send a man to the sun
Merica”

Since his inception in 2011, Earl Dibbles Jr. has captivated a huge audience and has become a viral sensation. Earl boasts a social media fanbase of over 3.5 million rabid fans and his online video views exceed 28 million. Earl is loosely based on some members of Granger’s own family and is one of many characters that the songsmith has developed over the years, including Lionel, Freddy Enchilada and Donny Cowboy.
